More Details
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) belong to the TGF-β superfamily a group of structurally related signaling proteins. This superfamily is widely distributed in the body and plays diverse roles during prenatal and postnatal life. Like BMP-7, BMP-4 contributes significantly to bone and cartilage development and maintenance. Reduced BMP-4 expression is linked to various bone disorders, including Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva, an inherited condition.
