Statement regarding Selectrol® strains tested with API 20E: Temporary change to testing

We have been experiencing supply issues from our supplier of API 20E identification strips and as a result we are now out of stock of this test kit. Our current update from the supplier is that normal supply will resume from August 2026, however this may be extended.

As we are a testing laboratory accredited to ISO 17025, we are unable to use the suggested alternatives as this would have to be included in an extension to scope and require validation.

There are a small number of Selectrol® strains that are tested using API 20E and this impacts on the following strains in the range:

Selectrol® is a first generation product and the above strains are manufactured from the UKHSA NCTC® cultures of which the source strain is known. Whilst we are unable to test with API 20E we will also not manufacture or test any of these strains together in the same week. The risk and impact is therefore low so we will release strains without API 20E testing in the interim.

Any certificates issued for these strains from batches tested from February 2026 will have ‘Result to follow’ indicated against the API 20E result. An example of the certificate for MM07 lot 00701301 is included in this notification for reference.

As soon as we receive stock of API 20E we shall back test any of the impacted batches and re-issue the CoA as a second issue.
