Human Platelet Lysate (HPL)

Human Platelet Lysate (HPL)

Human Platelet Lysate (HPL) is a cell culture growth supplement obtained from human platelets. Replacing Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) with HPL allows for expansion and potential clinical grade production of stem cells by eliminating xenogeneic risks and the transmission of bovine prions. The Human Platelet Lysate products are standardized and safe cell culture supplements that ensure a high cell performance and reproducible results.

HPL contains abundant platelet-derived growth factors and cytokines, which stimulate cellular proliferation and maintain differentiation potential.

HPL supports the maintenance of numerous cell types. Due to its high amount of growth factors and cytokines, HPL is predestined to expand Mesenchymal Stromal Cells and Dermal Fibroblasts. Furthermore, it supports the growth of Epidermal Keratinocytes and Endothelial Colony Forming Cells.

HPL has the added advantage that cells proliferate faster, resulting in a greater number of cells in a shorter time.

HPL is derived from human donor platelets collected from healthy consented volunteer donors at certified European Blood banks (21CFR640)

Batch Processing and Testing

Each batch is filtered to 0.1 µm before being dispensed, aseptically, into either bottles or CryoBags.

All batches are fully tested for pathogens according to FDA guidelines and are found non-reactive for HBsAg, HIV I/II antibody, CMV, HCV- and HBC-antibody, HIV-, HCV-, HBV-, HAV-, PVB19-NAT, Syphilis and Treponema pallidum.

Each batch of HPL is tested for the absence of bacteria, fungi, yeast and Mycoplasma. In addition, biological performance of final batches is assessed by cell culture on MSC, Fibroblasts and Primary Cells.

Full batch documentation is available, including Certificates of Analysis.

Key Benefits

Pooled from multiple donors - the consistent supply of donor platelets helps to stabilize availability and pricing.

A standardized, qualified product which is manufactured to reduce batch-to-batch variation.

Human-derived (animal-protein free) product which has been subject to extensive serology testing ensures safety for each batch.

GMP-Clinical grade product is manufactured under GMP compliant conditions using high quality raw materials and GMP compliant cell culture SOPs.

Available in three formats depending on application needs:

  • Standard - heparin needs to be added before use.
  • Fibrin-depleted - no heparin supplementation required but residues of heparin may remain. Available as both Research and GMP Grade material.
  • Xeno-free - a completely xeno-free, fibrin-depleted HPL. No heparin supplementation required. Available as both Research and GMP Grade material.

Applications

HPL can be used as a replacement for traditional supplements used in cell culture medium.

HPL is a suitable alternative for use in R&D and production/ manufacturing processes.

HPL is supplied in 100mL bottles. ELAREM, GMP Grade (PLS-002) can also be supplied in CryoBags on request.
