Quality Control Organisms for Microbiology

Quality Control Organisms are supplied by TCS Biosciences in two forms - BioBall and Selectrol^® - for use in Food Microbiology, Water Microbiology, Clinical Microbiology and Microbiological testing in general.   These are complimented by our double sided dip slides,  Bacticount , used for monitoring bacterial or fungal contamination of liquids or surfaces.

BioBall™- Quantitative Quality Control Organisms.

BioBall™ (BTF pty.) is a quantitative quality control standard containing a precise number of organisms.   The water-soluble ball delivers unprecedented accuracy for protocols requiring a precise number of  colony forming units in Microbiological quality control. 
The contol organisms are first generation derivatives of the original of National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC), National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi (NCPF) culture collections or Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science (IMVS).  BioBall is available in two sizes:  the standard size contains 30 cfu with a standard deviation of less than 3;  and  the large size contains 10,000 cfu with a standard deviation of 20%.   An ever expanding range of strains is available.

Selectrol^® - Qualitative Range of Standard Microbes

Selectrol^® provides freeze dried microorganisms that are a quick, convenient source of quality control organisms.  Being a first generation derivative of the original stock cultures of National Collection of Type Culture (NCTC) with equivalent ATCC (American Type Culture Collection) codes or National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi (NCPF), you are guaranteed organisms of know reactions.  Selectrol^® discs are intended for use in microbiology laboratories for the validation of test methods.  They are acceptable in accredited laboratories for the production of working stock cultures. Repeated sub-culture can cause the characteristics of a strain to change.  Selectrol^® provides laboratories with a fully traceable and cost effective source of organisms, removing the difficulties and traceability issues involved in maintaining stock cultures. 
Our extensive range includes strains of a large number of different bacterial species including Acinetobacter baumanii, Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus cereus, B. subtilis, Bacteroides fragilis, Burkholderia cepacia, Campylobacter jejuni, Citrobacter freundii, Clostridium perfringens, C. sporogenes, Enterobacter aerogenes, E. cloacae, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus hirae, Escherichia coli O157 (non toxigenic), E. coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella aerogenes, K. pneumoniae, Lactobacillus brevis, Listeria innocua, L. monocytogenes, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus mirabilis, P. vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Rhodococcus equi, Salmonella bongori, S. niarembe, S. poona, S. tranoroa, S. typhimurium, Serratia marcescens, Shigella sonnei, Staphylococcus aureus,S. epidermidis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes and Yersinia enterocolitica.
There are also a few fungal (mould and yeast) species : Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Selectrol^® Sets are an economical way of purchasing a range of microbiological QC cultures. When a range of stock cultures are required for specific testing (such as in the food or water industries) they can be purchased as a group.

Selectrol^® strains are provided as freeze dried, water-soluble discs that are offered in pack sizes of 10 or 25 per vial depending on the strain. The long-term viability of the cultures is maintained by the incorporation of activated charcoal in the disc and silica gel within the vials.

All strains come with a validated test report, covering a range of diognostic biochemical and microbiological tests to demonstrate that the characteristics for the final product are identical to those of the source strain.   The certificates are available to download online.

Bacticount - Slides for Monitoring Surfaces and fluids

Bacticount  are a range of double sided dip slides with complimentary growth agars on either side, useful for monitoring working surfaces or liquids for bacterial or fungal contamination.  The range includes slides designed to pick up Enterobacteriaceae, Salmonella, Staphylococci or Fungi.
